Do Candles Expire? A Guide to Candle Longevity picture

Candles bring warmth, fragrance, and a touch of magic to our homes, creating cosy moments and cherished memories. But, like all good things, their quality can change over time. While candles don't spoil or expire like perishable items, their performance and appeal can degrade, especially if not stored properly. Here's what you need to know to keep your candles at their best.

The vibrant hues of your candles can fade if not stored correctly. Sunlight is the primary culprit in causing colours to fade. To maintain their original beauty, keep your candles in a shaded area, away from windows and other sources of direct light. This simple step can ensure that your candles remain as colourful as the day you bought them.

A candle's fragrance is one of its defining features, and it can be maintained with proper care. Store your candles in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Exposure to high temperatures can cause the fragrance oils to evaporate, diminishing the scent over time. A well-sealed container can also help preserve the aroma, keeping it fresh and inviting.

The way a candle burns is crucial to its longevity. A clean, even burn can be achieved by trimming the wick to about 1/2 a centimetre before each use. This prevents excessive soot build-up and helps the candle burn more evenly. Additionally, allow the wax to melt across the entire surface before extinguishing the flame to avoid tunnelling, which can shorten the candle's life.

Over time, candles can age, but that doesn't necessarily mean they spoil. Proper storage is the key to extending the life of your candles. By keeping them in a cool, dark place, trimming the wick, and allowing an even burn, you can enjoy their scent, colour, and warmth for longer. Candles are small treasures that bring comfort and joy, and with a little care, they can continue to brighten your days for as long as possible.

Sincerely,

J
